Robert Z. Hicks, “Mr. Bob”, was inspired to write rhyming stories by memories of animals he enjoyed while growing up on his grandfather’s farm in Michigan. Paralyzed by encephalitis at the age of 15, Bob’s life is an example of the “secret” of success that Tommie Turtle used to win the race. He focused on the abilities he had, not what he didn’t have. When Bob’s physical abilities were taken away, he turned to developing his mental abilities; graduating with honors with a BS degree from Michigan State University, and Master’s degrees at the Universities of Michigan and Hawaii.
Bob and his wife Betty retired to New Port Richey FL in 1989 after teaching speech communication 3 years at Penn State University and 24 years at the University of Hawaii.
Professional artist Ruthi Rolseth and her husband Scott entertained and taught children in the Tampa Bay area for 25 years with their “Happy Faces” ministry/business. Ruthi delighted children as Sunflower the Clown.
